Action plan for the welfare of nomad children affected by Kargil War CHILDREN FROM KARGIL MEETS RENUKA CHOWDHURY

The Minister for Women and Child Development Smt. Renuka Chowdhury has said that her Ministry will prepare an action plan in consultation with the Indian Army for the welfare of the children of nomads who were affected by the Kargil war and other insurgency related incidents in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Minister assured all necessary support from the Ministry of Women and Child Development for providing basic services to the affected children in the State.

25 children, some of them accompanied by their guardians, from Kargil called on Smt. Chowdhury at her residence and interacted with the Minister over Breakfast. The group comprises of children of nomads whose families stay in the Drass region for about 4-5 months every year during the summer season and for the rest of the year they stay in lower hills and plains.

Due to this reasons the children’s education suffers as no schools are available in approximately 40 sq. km area where they reside in the summer. The Indian Army has set up static as well as mobile schools for these children and imparts education to them during their stay. These schools provide education from classes I to VIII and are affiliated and give education as per NCERT guidelines.

The children who are on 14 days tour of the country, informed the Minister that they are very happy with their tour and would now visit Agra, Phagwara and some other cities of the country.
