Air Force day Fly past an appeal

for Ministry of Defence | Date - 26-09-2006

The Indian Air Force celebrates its 74th Anniversary on 08 Oct 2006.  An air display by 66 aircraft will form part of the Air Force Day Parade cum investiture ceremony. Moving away from tradition, the Air Force is organizing these ceremonies at Air Force Station Hindon instead of Palam. This has been done in national interest so as to avoid any requirement of airspace closure.   Rehearsal of the air display will commence from  28th  Sep 2006.  Aircraft will fly at heights from 60 mtrs to 500 mtrs above ground level between 0830 and 1030 AM from 29th  Sep 06 to 08th Oct 06.  The areas over which aircraft will be flying at low levels are Wazirpur bridge-Karwalnagar – Afjalpur - Hindon, Pilkhowa – Nahal – Kusalia – Sadarpur - Guldhar-Hindon, Hindon – Bhadoli – Kakra – Sonda – Niwari – Mohiuddinpur - Chhajupur and Hindon – Ataur – Shanpur – Muradnagar - Abupura.

BIRDS POSE A SERIOUS THREAT TO AIRCRAFT FLYING AT LOW LEVEL.  EATABLES THROWN OUT IN THE OPEN ATTRACT BIRDS.  TO ENSURE A SAFE FLYPAST, THE INDIAN AIR FORCE REQUESTS CITIZENS OF DELHI AND ITS NEIGHBOURHOOD NOT TO THROW EATABLES AND GARBAGE IN THE OPEN. ALSO, IF THEY FIND ANY CARCASS OUT IN THE OPEN, THEY ARE REQUESTED TO REPORT TO THE NEAREST AIR FORCE UNIT/ POLICE STATION TO ARRANGE FOR ITS DISPOSAL.

The Air Force Day Parade will commence with Ensign formation of three Mi-17 helicopters in Vic formation trooping the Air Force Ensign at a height of 60 m and speed of 80 kmph.  This will be followed by three Mi-35 attack helicopters in Vic formation at the same height at a speed of 210 kmph.

The fighter aircraft fly-past will be led by 5 Jaguars in arrowhead formation at a height of 150 mtrs and a speed of 780kmph, closely followed by arrowhead formations of five each Bison (MiG-21), Vijay (MiG-23), Baaz (MiG-29) and Vajra formation (Mirage 2000).  This will be followed by three Sukhoi 30 in vic formation. The leading SU-30 ac will pull up steeply and carry out a “Vertical Charlie” while the other two ac will fly level past the dais. Two Mi-35 (Akbar) will approach overhead at 100m and set up a CAP to sanitize the area for a “Search and Rescue”demonstration followed by two Mi-17 1V helicopters, which will demonstrate slithering and ‘Small Team Insertion and Exertion’ operations by specially trained “Grauds” of Indian Air Force. Two Chetaks will demonstrate rescue operation. Two Mi-17 1V (Ranvir) will then approach overhead and offload a jeep.  Grauds will then carry out a demolition exercise. This will be followed by a display of helicopter formation flying by “Sarang” comprising four IAF Advanced Light Helicopters. Mixed bag formation of one IL-78 with one each SU-30 & Jaguar plugged-in will fly past the dais at a height of 500m and speed of 500kmph followed by tanker formation of one IL-78 with two Mirage-2000 plugged-in will fly past at same height and speed. Two Mig-29 and two Jaguars will demonstrate CAP versus Strike by one SU-30 performing solo aerobatics display.

The grand finale will be a scintillating formation aerobatics ballet by the renowned Surya Kiran Aerobatics Team (SKAT) of nine Kiran Mk II aircraft.  Their routine will include take off in Vics of three in front of the audience followed by a breath taking display of synchronized low level maneuvering in close formation.  This will be followed  by one Mi-26 demonstrating its capability.
