In the Release ‘27.8 lakh birds culled; 421 rapid response teams in field’ issued today, please read the figure ’27.8 lakh’ in the headline as ‘27.27 lakh’

The revised release is as follows:

27.27 LAKH BIRDS CULLED; 421 RAPID RESPONSE TEAMS IN FIELD

The total mortality of birds on 31st January 2008 was of the order of 393, all of which were reported from South 24 Parganas and Birbhum. A total mortality of 1,32, 374 poultry birds has been reported from Birbhum, Dakshin Dinajpur, Murshidabad, Nadia, South 24 Parganas, Burdwan, Bankura, Hooghly, Malda, Coochbehar, Purulia, Howrah and North 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal.

A total of 421 Rapid Response Teams were engaged on 31.01.2008, which completed culling of 2.1 lakh birds taking the cumulative figure of culling so far to 27.27 lakh. The revised target of culling is 27.79 lakhs.

Latest position of destruction of eggs and feed carried out till 31.1.2008 are 2,31,966 and 60,810 kg. respectively.

There were reports of death of two bar-headed geese in Jammu and Kashmir. The State has reportedly sent samples to the HSADL, Bhopal, which would be tested on receipt in the said laboratory.
