Central grants to Bihar under PMGSY

The Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs. 14.97 crore as Grants-in-Aid to M/s. National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd. (NBCC) for implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Bihar for the year 2006-07. The amount is meant for road work packages in seven districts of the state, namely, Katihar, Kishanganj, Lakhisarai, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Sheikhpura and Araria.

The grant is a sequel to the tripartite agreement held between the NBCC, Rural Development Department, Government of Bihar and the Ministry of Rural Development. Utilisation of funds under the scheme is subject to the conditions laid down from time to time in the guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and supplementary directions thereunder.

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) aims to provide all-weather basic access to about 1.72 lakh habitations of population of 500 or more (250 or more in Hill States) including North East, desert and tribal areas.
