Chief Justice of India calls for implementing recommendation of various law commissions

The Chief Justice of India Sh. Justice K.G.Balakrishnan has called for implementing serious recommendation of various Law Commissions. He was speaking at function after releasing a book entitled " Legislative Drafting: Shaping the Law for the New Millennium" here this evening. Justice Sh.Balakrishnan said that the laws should be drafted depending upon the needs of the people. Asserting that our laws are inferior to none, the Chief Justice of India said that the law should be for greatest happiness to greatest number of people.

Presiding over the function, the Minister for Law and Justice Sh.H.R.Bhardwaj said that the country’s legal system is moving towards fast track. He said that there is demand for legislation of which we never thought of earlier like meeting the challenge of terrorism. He said that his ministry has decided to poll all resources in meeting the emerging challenges in legislation drafting. Sh. Bhardwaj said that we have maintained the independence of judiciary and of the institutions.

The Law Secretary Sh.T.K. Viswanathan who has revised and updated the book " Legislative Drafting: Shaping the Law for the New Millennium", said legislative drafting is discipline which needs continuous training. Observing that ordinary citizen was affected by the laws from cradle to grave, the Law Secretary said, " With the legislative machinery churning out of a steady mass of legislation, it becomes necessary for the stakeholders to understands the law making process." He said the law Ministry is aspiring to produce drafters of international standards.

The Minister for Law and Justice, Shri H. R. Bhardwaj released the digitized version of the general of Indian Law Institute containing articles published during the last 49 years.
