Closed textile mills in Gujarat

There are 44 private and 9 National Textile Corporation (NTC) mills in the State of Gujarat. In order to provide interim relief to textile workers rendered unemployed as a consequence of permanent closure of any particular portion or entire textile units, Government have introduced the Textile Workers’ Rehabilitation Fund Scheme. Since the inception of this Scheme, 32 units in Gujarat have been given benefits of the scheme.

As far as NTC is concerned, 7960 employees in NTC (Gujarat) mills have opted for Modified Voluntary Retirement Scheme (MVRS), and have been paid compensation amounting to Rs. 276.79 crores. The dues of workers of private mills come under the purview of concerned State Governments.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Textiles Shri E.V.K.S. Elangovan in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
