Defence Minister inaugurates Army Recruitment Office at Berhampur

The Defence Minister, Shri Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated an Army Recruitment Office at Berhampur, the fourth such establishment at West Bengal.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Mukherjee said that the Defence Forces were the only organisation which did not have any reservation or distinction of caste, creed and religion and recruitment is completely free of charge. He said that this Office will cater for the districts of Murshidabad, Birbhum and Nadia, besides Berhampur and hoped that the people here would make optimal use of this facility.

Earlier, welcoming the Defence Minister, the Deputy Director General Recruiting Eastern Command, Brigadier RK Batra said that this office would be in addition to the existing ones at Kolkata, Kanchrapara and Siliguri and would account for 27 % of the Recruitable Male Population of West Bengal. Around 800 vacancies of Personnel Below Officer Rank would be filled in various categories every year, he said.

The newly appointed Branch Recruiting Officer at Berhampur, Colonel Mandeep Singh said that this Office would be fully functional by 30th June of this year. He said that two recruitment rallies would be conducted this year in July for Berhampur and Panagarh and the other in November for Berhampur and Krishnanagar.
