Election Commission’s directive to Bihar Government

The Election Commission of India has directed the Government of Bihar to issue necessary instructions regarding execution of all non-bailable warrants that are pending in the State; for conducting special search operations to unearth illegal arms and for taking preventive action against habitual offenders and anti-social elements.

The Commission has also asked the Bihar Government to send a consolidated district-wise report to the Commission every week beginning 01.07.2005.

The total number of non-bailable warrants pending by the week ending July 14, 2005 were 29621 and non-bailable warrants executed 11127. The total arms and weapons recovered during the week were 164, cartridges 519 and explosives 18.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Law and Justice, Shri K. Venkatapathy in a written reply to the questions from Shri Abu Asim Azmi and Shri Amar Singh in the Rajya Sabha today.
