German Transport Minister Calls on Shri G.K. Vasan

Dr. Peter Ramsauer, Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Development from Germany, leading an official delegation from Germany, called on Shri G.K. Vasan, honourable Minister of Shipping here today.

The discussion between the two sides broadly revolved around bilateral cooperation in shipping and technology, carbon dioxide reduction in maritime transport and ship breaking.

Highlighting the thrust being given to public-private participation in the port sector, Shri Vasan outlined the opportunities available for the German side to invest in shipping and port development projects. The Shipping Minister elaborated on the various projects currently undertaken in ports by various international players. It was pointed out that 100 % FDI was permitted in both port and shipping sectors through the automatic route and infrastructure companies from Germany were welcome to participate in PPP projects in India.

Shri Vasan also highlighted the potential for greater cooperation between India and Germany in the areas of maritime education, shipbuilding and technology and inter-port cooperation for mutual benefit.

This meeting is expected to give a fillip to bilateral ties between India and Germany, particularly in the maritime sector.
