Intake of IITs and Institutes of Technology

Nearly 2.99 lakhs aspirants appeared for IIT-JEE against the proposed 5444 seats in 7 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Information Technology-Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU) and Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad. These Institute which are autonomous in nature endeavor to increase the intake depending upon the infrastructure available with them.

At present, there is no proposal to upgrade or expand any of Regional Engineering Colleges (now known as NITs) to IIT Level.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shri M.A.A Fatmi in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
