Ministry of Power and SJVN signs MoU-targets 6600 million units generation

Public sector Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam plans a gross energy generation of 6600 million units with an expected revenue realization of Rs. 1378 crore during the year 2008-09 from its 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between Shri Anil Razdan, Secretary Power. Govt. of India and Shri H.K. Sharma , CMD, SJVNL recently at New Delhi.

The MoU includes targets of construction of the 412 MW Rampur HE Project. As per the targets specified, the Kasholi adit of Rampur Project is scheduled to be completed in March, 2009 and Goshai adit in October 2008 and the Kazo adit by August 2008. The MoU also provides for excavation of 5250 meters of the 15 Kms. long Head Race Tunnel of this project by March, 2009.

The MoU further spells out schedules for submission of Detailed Project Reports (DPR) of other projects viz. 252 MU Devsari HE Project in February, 2009 and 56 MW Naitwar Mori HE Project in July, 2008.

The Dynamic Parameters of the MoU also include obtaining ISO 14001 for Environment and R&R activities and OHSAS-18001 for the Rampur HE Project besides imparting training to 250 employees of the Company during the year 2008-09.

As per terms of MoU, the Ministry of Power will support SJVN to be designated as schedule 'A' Company and also to help join the club of Mini Ratna PSUs. The Ministry will also assist SJVN in obtaining speedy clearances for its projects from various statutory authorities. It will also provide necessary help to SJVNL for full and timely realization of its dues from its beneficiary /bulk consumers and State Electricity Boards. The Company had entered the august club of selected Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) in 2004-05, who sign the MoU with Govt. of India every year.

During the financial year 2007-08, the company's 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Power Station has achieved a gross record generation of 6450 million units surpassing the MoU targets of 6397 million units. The generation achieved during 2006-07 was only 5941 million units and during 2005-06 it had generated 4055 million units of electricity.
