Nalco gets Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Award

The captive power plant of the National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), at Angul in Orissa has bagged the prestigious Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Award for the year 2000. The Union Minister of State for Environment & Forests, Shri Namo Narain Meena presented the award in a function held here today.

The 960 MW power plant has been given this award for its pollution control and environment protection measures. This is the highest national award instituted by the Ministry of Environment & Forests in the field of environmental management. The power plant at Angul is the largest captive facility in the country and has got the best pollution control systems. The plant takes extensive care for the management of fly ash.

NALCO earlier received the Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra Award-1994 for its role in plantation and social forestry. The company is committed to use eco-friendly processes, safe handling of materials, monitoring of occupational health, plantation of trees and preparedness for disaster management. The ISO 14001 certification of all production units bears testimony to NALCO's deep concern for environment.
