Pension for freedom fighters of Hyderabad liberation movement

for Cabinet | Date - 13-01-2005

The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for enhancing the number of beneficiaries of Hyderabad Liberation Movement from the earlier estimate of about 11,000 made in 1985 to about 15,000. The financial implication for granting pension and Dearness Relief to the additional 4000 persons and the expenditure on railway passes for 50 per cent of these pensioners estimated to be using the facility will be Rs.20.74 crore per annum.

Under the liberalized Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension (SSSP) Scheme, relaxation was made that in the event of non-availability of official records the freedom fighter could furnish certificate from a prominent freedom fighter, who had himself suffered imprisonment for not less than two years. The proposal will benefit about 2,400 applicants whose cases were rejected earlier on account of their not belonging to the earlier approved list of 98 camps; and the applicants whose verification reports are yet to be received from the State Government.
