Plan Scheme for Technology Upgradation and Modernization of the Food Processing Industries implemented

Government has framed and implemented a Plan Scheme for technology upgradation, establishment and modernization of the food processing industries. The rate of assistance is 25% of the cost of plant and machinery and technical civil works subject to the maximum of Rs.50 lakh in general areas and 33.33% of the project cost subject to the maximum of Rs.75 lakh in difficult areas. Keeping in view the limited resources and the need to focus on the highly perishable agri produces, financial assistance to rice/flour and pulse milling has been discontinued in respect of the fresh project cases w.e.f. 01.04.2004. However, the FPI project cases received by the SNAs upto 31.03.2004 are eligible for assistance on usual terms and conditions prescribed under the scheme.

The Financial Assistance of Rs.907.72 lakh was extended to Maharashtra followed by U.P. Rs.570.17 lakh, Tamil Nadu Rs.498.25 lakh and Andhra Pradesh Rs.441.04 lakh during the year 2005-06. Orissa has got the lowest financial assistance of Rs.3.93 lakh followed by Chhatishgarh Rs. 6.48 lakh during the same financial year.
