Power Minister administers oath to Chairperson of Appellate Tribunal for Electricity

The Minister of Power, Shri P.M. Sayeed today administered the oath of Office and Secrecy to the Chairperson and the Members of the Appellate Tribunal for electricity.

In accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003, Shri Justice Anil Dev Singh, retired Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, whose name was recommended by the Chief Justice of India, has been appointed as the first Chairperson of the Tribunal.

On the basis of recommendations of the Selection Committee, Justice E. Padmanabhan, retired Judge of the Chennai High Court has been appointed as Judicial Member and Shri H.L. Bajaj and Shri A.A. Khan have been appointed as Technical Members of the Tribunal.

Under the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003, Central Government is required to constitute the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity to hear appeals against the orders of the adjudicating officer or the Central/State Electricity Regulatory Commissions. The Tribunal has been notified and has been located at Sewa Bhawan, R.K. Puram, New Delhi. The Appellate Tribunal has been provided in the new Law so that there is speedy disposal of such matters. Appeals against the orders of the Tribunal shall lie to the Supreme Court.
