Proposal to allow Foreign Officers to Work on Indian Ships

Director General of Shipping is the regulatory body for seafarers training and is ensuring quality training.

About 18000 officers and 20,350 ratings are either awaiting sea time training or under employed or in the process of getting sea time training.

In view of shortage of Indian officers, the Government is considering a proposal to allow foreign officers to work on Indian ships subject to certain conditions in consultation with the shipping industry.

This information was given by the Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Shri T.R. Baalu in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
