Railways Conduct Vigorous Checks Against Touts

for Ministry of Railways | Date - 16-11-2010

During the rush periods which includes festival season, some reports of touts becoming active do come to notice. To curb such activities, vigorous checks against touts are conducted during this period. During the last two moths, i.e. August-September, 2010 the number of touts apprehended were 8 per cent more as compared to last year. As a result of the intensive drives and strict measures, passenger earnings have risen by 10.23 per cent during the current year. The touts so apprehended were taken up as per provisions of law.

Generally, preventive/decoy checks are conducted by the Railways at the reservation offices and action is taken under Discipline & Appeal Rules against the railway officials, found indulging in malpractices. However, as and when CBI decides to conduct such checks, railways provide all assistance.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways, Shri E. Ahamed in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on 12.11.10.
