Rajiv Gandhi national quality award presented; bhilai steel plant gets top award INDIAN STANDARDS FOR NATURAL GAS PIPELINE RELEASED

Minister of State for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Taslimuddin gave away the thirteenth Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards for the year 2006 to 14 manufacturing and service sector industries here today.

 

Bhilai Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India Limited received the award in the ‘Best of All’ category.  The Award for ‘Large Scale Manufacturing Industry’ has been won by Lucas-TVS Limited, Chennai.  Nipuna Services Limited, Hyderabad is the winner of award for ‘Large Scale Service Industry’ and Himedia Laboratories Private Limited, Nasik is the winner of award for ‘Small Scale Manufacturing Industry’.

            The Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards, given annually by the Bureau of Indian Standards, were instituted in the year 1991 on the lines of Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the USA, Deming Prize in Japan and the European Quality Award.

 

Addressing the awardees, Shri Taslimuddin emphasized  the need for maintaining high quality of products, both for consumer satisfaction and brand image which in turn result in high profits for the company.

 

Secretary, Consumer Affairs, Shri Yashwant Bhave, who was also the chairman of the National Awards Committee, explained the tough selection process for the awards, and said that the awardee organisations have shown high level of commitment to quality. He complimented the awardees for maintaining consistently high quality-standards. 

 

Director General, Bureau of Indian Standards, Smt. Alka Sirohi, stated that high quality requires constant goal-setting and striving to achieve them.

 

The Minister also released the Indian Standards for Natural Gas Pipeline System, which have been evolved by BIS in conjunction with the Gas Authority of India Limited in a record time of one year. CMD, GAIL, Shri UD Choubey, received the Standards from Secretary, Consumer Affairs.
