Setting up of Coach Mid-Life Rehabilitation Workshop

for Ministry of Railways | Date - 10-12-2010

Assessment of coach Mid Life Rehabilitation (MLR) capacity in the country is a continuous process, in view of the ever changing coach population scenario. The existing and already planned MLR facilities over Indian Railways are considered adequate to meet the Railways requirement in this context. There is no proposal, at present to plan for setting up any more new workshop for coach MLR, in addition to those under execution.

Site selection for setting up of Railway Workshop is done taking into account several factors such as requirement of rolling stock, operational needs, level of industrialization in the area, availability of land, support infrastructure in the area, principle of inclusive growth etc. Out of a number of potentially suitably sites, it is possible for Ministry of Railways to set up workshop only at limited number of places based on actual requirement.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways, Shri E. Ahamed in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.
