Shekhawat for harnessing alternative sources of energy IMA BLOOD BANK OF UTTARANCHAL INAUGURATED

Vice President, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat has emphasized on harnessing alternative sources of energy for providing integrated solution to the environmental problems, energy security, reducing imports, rural employment and improving of agricultural economy.

He was addressing the Second Convocation ceremony of the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies at Bidholi in Dehradun today. Vice President urged the University to engage in research into bio-fuels and come out with appropriate interventions of technology to enhance higher percentage of blending with high speed diesel. Shri Shekhawat pointed out that the energy security ought to be nation’s priority agenda of action for economic growth and development. “Today the key question before us is how will the country sustain the supply of energy needed for its economic growth? We need energy security by putting in place development strategies that do not lead us to some consumption traps but present an alternative energy road map, which provides for increased use of solar, hydro and nuclear power”, he observed.

Describing science and technology of having an ability to change the course of human society, the Vice President stated in today’s technology driven world, the fast developing high technologies impact the society more than ever before. He said the path- breaking invention of science and technology have opened new vistas of opportunities to promote welfare of the people and overcome under-development.

The Vice President called upon the passing out students to use their knowledge for betterment of masses. He gave away top honour medals and degrees to 132 graduates and Post Graduates.

Governor of Uttaranchal and Visitor to the University, Sudarshan Agarwal and Chief Minister Shri N.D. Tiwari also addressed the gathering.

Shri Shekhawat also inaugurated IMA Blood Bank of Uttaranchal at a separate function in Dehradun today.
