Six Laning of Dhankuni – Kharagpur Section of NH-6 in the States of West Bengal under NHDP Phase-V approved

The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure today approved the implementation of the project of six-laning of 111.40 Km long Dhankuni – Kharagpur section of NH-6 from 17.600 to Km 129.000 in the State of West Bengal under NHDP Phase V on DBFOT basis in BOT (Toll) mode.

The total project cost is estimated to Rs.1396.18 crore under DBFOT pattern. The concession period of this project is worked out as 25 years including a construction period of 30 months.

The project will reduce the time and cost of travel for traffic plying between Kolkata and Kharagpur in the State of West Bengal. It will also increase the potential of employment to local labourers for the project activities. Besides it will also add to the transportation facilities for travel to Baharagora, Sampalpur, Raipur, Nagpur, Dhule, Hajira. Background :

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had approved six-laning of 6500 Km of four-lane National Highways comprising 5700 Km of other sections at a cost of Rs.41,210 crore under NHDP Phase V in October 2006. Of the total investment required, Rs.35,692 crore is expected to come from private sector and the balance Rs.5,518 crore from Government funding for bridging the viability gap, land acquisition/utility removal, consultancy etc. The Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPAC) in its 32nd meeting held in February 2010 has accorded approval to Dhankuni- Kharagpur Project on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) BOT basis under NHDP Phase-V.
