Following is the text of the statement made by Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram:
“The Drinking Water Mission was named after Shri Rajiv Gandhi in the year 1991. No drinking water programme was named after Shri Deen Dayal Upadhyaya or any other leader by the NDA Government, and hence the question of changing any name does not arise.
A non-issue was raised in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, July 21, 2004. The Finance Minister is, however, happy that the NDA/BJP has decided to close the matter.”
