The Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Thiru T.R. Baalu has approved a sum of Rs. 30.22 lakh for consultancy services for feasibility study and preparation of the detailed project reports (DPRs) for construction of bypasses in three towns in the state of Tamil Nadu.

An amount of Rs. 12.35 lakhs has been approved for feasibility study for construction of bypass to Pullyanpatti town at Km 202/0-210/0 of NH-209. This town is a major industrial and agricultural market center. Besides there is lot of tourist activity because of pilgrimage center “Bannari Amman Temple” in its vicinity. There are numerous dangerous zig-zag curves in this section which are prone to the fatal accidents. The road stretch is very congested and to maintain the free flow of the traffic, it is necessary to provide a bye-pass to this town.

Thiru Baalu also approved an amount of Rs. 10.68 lakhs for feasibility study and preparation of DPR for construction of bypass to Annur town at km 189/0 of NH-209. This important road is the major route for the hilly towns like Thalavadi Ansanur, Kollegal and surrounding villages to nearby market centers in Coimbatore and Erode. Therefore, the construction of a bypass would improve the flow of the traffic and resolve the problem of continuous congestion on this stretch.

Further, the feasibility study has also been approved for construction of bypass to Pollachi town at km 115/0-122/0 on the same highway by Thiru Baalu for a cost of Rs. 7.19 lakh. This is an important town with the tourism centers such as Valparai, Aliyar and Top Slip being situated around it. Educational Institutions and Industries are located on Pollachi-Karur road and Palladam –Avinashi-Pollachi-Meenakarai road. During festival time and summer vacation time large number of tourists and devotees arrive here. Hence it becomes very difficult to cope up with high intensity of traffic flow and therefore a bypass road to Pollachi town is expected to great relief to the people living in Pollachi and the adjoining towns.
