Traditional rights to people of Uttarakhand

The people of Uttrakhand are still enjoying their traditional rights known as haq – haqoob. However, the quantity of these rights have been reduced due to the ban imposed by Supreme court on felling of trees .

The Government of India has enacted the Scheduled Tribe and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest rights) Act, 2006 for recognition of the rights of the people living in and around forests

This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Sh.S.Regupathy in a written reply to question in the Rajya Sabha today.
