Workshop on India-Asean Cooperation on Renewable Energy

A two-day workshop on India-ASEAN Cooperation on Renewable Energy was inaugurated here today. The workshop is aimed at sharing experience in renewable energy and exploring the possibilities of establishing institutional linkages for Research and Development and industry cooperation. It is also to set up projects in new and renewable energy with institutions of Association of South East Asean Nations (ASEAN) member countries. 30 senior level officers from R&D Institutions and government department from 8 member countries namely Cambodia, Indonesia, India, Loa PDA, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Besides, senior officials of ASEAN Centre for Energy ASEAN Secretariat, Indonesia are participating in the workshop.

The workshop was organised by the New and Renewable Energy Ministry as a follow up of the Plan of Action of the agreement on “India-ASEAN Partnership for Peace, Progress and Shared Prosperity” that was adopted at the 3rd India-ASEAN Summit held at Vietiane, Laos on November 30, 2004.

Inaugurating the workshop, the Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy called for the development of joint projects in research, technologies and deployment of new and renewable energy systems in the member countries.
