Question : NATIONAL PATENTS OFFICE



(a) whether there was a proposal to set up National Patents Office;

(b) if so, whether the said office has been set up;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(a) to (e) : The Government has sanctioned a project for the modernisation of Patent Offices, including the setting up of a National Patent Office. However, due to orders of the Hon`ble High Court of Kolkata, it has not been possible to set up the National Patent Office. At this stage, the Government has taken up modernisation of its Patent Offices located at New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai. The first such modernised office, at New Delhi, has been made operational on 25 July, 2001.
