(a) whether the Government proposes to build immersed tunnels through sea and river;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the steps taken thereon; and
(c) whether the feasibility and tender process has been initiated by the Government in this regard, if so, the details thereof and the time stipulated for setting up these tunnels?

(a) At present there is no proposal with Ministry of Shipping to build immersed tunnels through sea and river. However, Kolkata Port has entrusted the work to National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NIIIDCL) for preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) with identification of best technological option for crossing of river Muriganga in the proposed new Port at Sagar.
