(a) the name of places in the country where regional news units and play division units of All
India Radio have been set up so far, State-wise, location-wise;
(b) whether the Government have a proposal to set up more number of such regional news and
play division units in 2002-2003;
(c) if so, the details thereof and the time by which these units are likely to be set up; and
(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): AIR has informed that there are a number of Regional News Units of AIR spread all over
the country, but AIR has no divisions such as play division. However, AIR Stations have
Drama Sections which originate and broadcast drama in their regional languages. State-wise and
location wise details of Regional News Units as well as Drama Sections of AIR are given in the
Annexure.
(b): There is no proposal to set up any new Regional News Unit or Play Division during 2002-
2003.
