Question : IRON ORE FOR STEEL INDUSTRY



(a) whether the steel industry in the country has been continuously facing the shortfall of iron ore;

(b) if so, the comparative details of the demand and availability of iron ore for the steel industry in the country during each of the last three years and the current year;

(c) the details of the steps taken by the Government to increase the production of iron ore for the steel industry;

(d) whether the Government proposes to put restriction on the export of iron ore in view of the shortfall of iron ore for the steel industry; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a)to(c): No, Madam. Production of Iron ore in the Country is sufficient to meet the requirement of Steel Industry. Production of Iron ore during current year April to May, 2014 is 56.5 Million Tonne. Details of last three years iron ore production, domestic consumption is given in the table below:-
