Question : PRODUCTION OF CRUDE OIL AND NATURAL GAS



(a) the total estimated known reserves of the crude oil and natural gas in the country and the areas found technically and economically feasible for the exploitation works;

(b) the details of the indigenous production of crude oil and antural gas in the country and the expenditure being incurred for this purpose; and

(c) the quantum and the value of the crude oil and petroleum products imported by the Government and the annual requirement of crude oil and natural gas and petroleum products?

(a) As on 01.04.1999, the balance recoverable reserves of crude oil and natural gas were approximately 590 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) and 635 Billion Cubic Metres (BCM) respectively. The technically and economically feasible oil and gas producing areas are located in western and eastern offshore and in the States of Gujarat, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

(b)
(i) The production of crude oil and natural gas during 1998-99 was 32.72 MMT and 27.43 BCM respetively.

(ii) The details of the expenditure incurred are being collected and would be laid on the Table of the House.

(c) The details of the actual quantity and value of imports of crude oil and petroleum products and also actual consumption of crude oil, natural gas petroleum products during 1998-99 are given in the table below:-
