Question : Availability of Safe Drinking Water

(a) whether the Government has taken any steps to make available safe drinking water in the mining areas of Maharashtra especially in Chandrapur; and
(b) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Yes Sir. As per information received from Government of Maharashtra, there are 1721 habitations in Chandrapur District including mining areas. Out of which, 674 habitations are in mining zone and each one is provided with safe drinking water by spot sources. At present, safe drinking water is made available to the inhabitants by 1007 Piped Water Supply Schemes, 265 Solar Dual Pump Schemes, 78 Power Pump Schemes, 7074 Public Wells and 9750 Hand Pumps in the district. In water quality affected areas, 495 water purifiers[Defloridation Unit (DFU) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) Unit] are installed to provide safedrinking water. Further, 362 Schemes (Piped Water Supply Scheme, Water purifiers and Solar Dual Pumps schemes) are proposed under different programmes.
