(a) whether there is shortage of hostels in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) and various other Central hospitals in various parts of the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Union Government has taken any steps to set up more hostels;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): Yes. In general there is shortage of hostels mainly due to implementation
of recommendations of Oversight Committee regarding OBC reservation.
(c) to (e): Yes. The Government has approved the proposals for setting up of new
hostels in various institutes like AIIMS, JIPMER etc. to meet additional requirement
due to implementation of recommendations of Oversight Committee.
