(a) & (b) The Allahabad High Court had stayed the implementation of the Ganga Action Plan Phase II vide order dated 16.9.1998 and directed the Ministry of Environment & Forests to constitute a Technical Committee to examine, scrutinize and approve the project and that only after the clearance of this Committee the projects / schemes would be undertaken. This order has been contested by the Ministry of Environment & Forests in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court vide its orders dated 29.10.1998 and 9.11.1998 has stayed the operation of the aforesaid direction of the Allahabad High Court pending further orders.
