Question : PROFIT BY FCI



(a) the profits earned by the Food Corporation of India during the last three years;

(b) whether all the recruitments have been made in the above Corporation;

(c) if not, the number of posts are lying vacant along with the period from which these posts are lying vacant;

(d) the reasons for not filling the said posts; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to fill up these posts?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD AND PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION ( SHRI SRIRAM CHAUHAN )

(a) The FCI does not undertake its operations with a profit motive, as it is functioning as an implementing arm of the Central Government`s Food policy, by procuring foodgrains at rates fixed by the Central Government and distributing the same below the cost price, through Targetted Public Distribution System.

(b), (c), (d) & (e) : Posts lying vacant in various Categories are as under :-

Category - I	:	72,	Category - II	:	100,	Category - III	:	3454,	Category - IV	:	7196
These posts could not be filled up on account of a ban imposed by Government of India for filling up posts, and due to stay orders from different High Courts.
