Question : CONSTRUCTION OF NATIONAL HIGHWAY



(a) the details of steps taken for expediting construction work of NH 208 for the last six months; and

(b) the present status of construction work of Quilon By-pass of National Highway-47 and the time scheduled for its completion?

(a) Four estimates costing Rs.137.00 lakhs on National Highway-208 have been sanctioned during 1999-2000. In addition, two estimates costing about Rs.309.00 lakh under Improvement of Riding Quality Programme have also been sanctioned.

(b) The Quilon Bypass is proposed to be constructed in 4 Phases. Phase I is completed and is opened to traffic. Phase-II is completed except Rail Over Bridge (ROB). The Railways are being pursued for early completion of R.O.B. The work of Phase-III & IV of this bypass is to be taken up under Build, Operate & Transfer (BOT) Scheme, depending upon the viability of the project, which is under study by the consultant. The consultant report is expected to be submitted by the end of August, 2000.
