Question : PROMOTION OF TEXTILE INDUSTRY .



(a) whether the Government have formulated any effective scheme to promote textile industry in West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir;

(b) if so, the details thereof for the last two years; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor ?

(a) to (c) The Union Government have been taking various steps to boost production and export of textiles all over the country including West Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir. For sectors such as handloom, handicrafts, sericulture and wool , which are mainly in the village and small scale sector, financial assistance is provided to States, agencies and beneficiaries under various schemes to enable inputs critical to increase in quality, productivity and production and access to forward and backward linkages for increased incomes or value addition to the artisans, weavers, farmers or producers. In addition, new schemes have been launched such as Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme, Cotton Technology Mission Scheme, setting up of Apparel Parks, Textile Centres Infrastructure Development Scheme and various other measures taken, including liberalization of rules and regulations governing exports, that are aimed at promoting growth and investment in the textile sector. A special package for the State of Jammu & Kashmir has been announced by Prime Minister involving financial implications of approximately Rs. 70.00 crores for 10th Five Year Plan
