Question : WIDENING REPAIR OF N.Hs IN ORISSA



(a) the details of National Highways in Orissa on which widening, extention and repairing works have been started since February, 2002 till date;

(b) the time by when such works on remaining National Highways passing through Orissa are likely to be started;

(c) the details of the estimated expenditure thereon; and

(d) the details of the actual expenditure incurred so far thereon?

(a) & (b) Development and maintenance of National Highways is a continuous process. There are 15 National Highways (NH No. 5, 5A, 6, 23, 42, 43, 60, 75 (Extn), 200, 201, 203, 203A, 215, 217 & 224) in the State of Orissa with a total length of 3603 km. Out of which the work of widening to 4-lanes has been undertaken in 444 km length on NH 5 & NH 60 under National Highway Development Project (NHDP). Since Feb 2002, work of widening to 4-lanes has been undertaken in 77.40 km length on NH 5A under Port connectivity by NHAI. Further, works on 1804 km length of National Highways have been sanctioned under various development schemes during this period for National Highways entrusted to State PWD. Out of this, works in about 1265 km length have been completed and in the balance portion, works are either in progress or at tendering stage. Works on the balance length of National Highways in Orissa would be taken up in subsequent annual plans.

(c) & (d) The estimated expenditure / allocation during period 2001-02 to 2004-05 on National Highways was Rs.1537.43 crore for development works and Rs. 167.65 crore for maintenance works. The actual expenditure during this period on National Highways was Rs. 1523.95 crore for development works and Rs.161.63 crore for maintenance works.
