(a) whether the Government of Bihar have sought assistance to develop inland water transport facilities in four major rivers- Ganga, Kosi, Gandak and Sone in the State of Bihar;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the said proposal has been approved; and
(d) if so, the funds allocated therefor and the works being undertaken?

(a) Yes, Sir.
(b) to (d) Four proposals have been approved by the Government in 2003-04. Details of these proposals including sanctioned cost, and funds released to the State Government are at Annexure-I. These projects are to be implemented by the State Government. As per progress reports received from State Government, works are yet to commence on any of
these projects.In addition, four more proposals (One each for Ganga, Kosi, Gandak and Sone rivers) were receivedfrom Government of Bihar on which clarifications had been sought from the State Government. The same are awaited.Details of these proposals are at Annexure-II.
