Question : SCHOLARSHIP UNDER MAEF



(a) the details of the scholarships provided to the students belonging to the minority communities under the Maulana Azad Education Foundation during the last three years;

(b) whether the Government proposes to increase the number of such scholarships and if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the comparative details of funds sanctioned and scholarships actually given during the above period in various States inclu- ding Rajasthan?

(a) The Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF) provides schola- rships for meritorious girl students belonging to minority commu- nities since 2003-04. Under this scheme, scholarships are provided @ Rs.12,000/- each (which is released in two equal instalments of Rs.6,000/-) for pursuing classes 11th & 12th. To be eligible, stu- dents should have passed class 10th with more than 55% marks and parents’ annual income less than rupees one lakh. Scholarships sanctioned during the last three years are as under:

 (b) The number of scholarships awarded has gradually increased over the period from 1200 scholarships in 2003-04 to 45000 scholarships in 2014-15. For the current year (i.e. 2015-16), the number of scho- larships proposed to be awarded is 50,000. 

(c) The first instalment of the scholarship is released to all bene- ficiaries immediately after sanction and the second instalment is released after passing of class 11th and taking admission to class 12th. The comparative details of scholarships sanctioned and relea- sed in various States including Rajasthan during the last three years is annexed.
