(a) to (d) Cleaning of river is a continuous process and the Government of India is supplementing the efforts of the State Governments in addressing the challenges of pollution of river Ganga including its Tributaries by providing financial and technical assistance.
For the cleaning of river Ganga and its tributaries, including Yamuna, the sewage treatment plants are being setup in various towns depending on various factors such as sewage generation from the town, characteristics of the waste water in drains, land availability, topographical features, power availability, sewage travelling distance before meeting river etc. considering these factors States prepare the DPRs for the towns which may have one or more or alternative treatment methods like constructed wetlands, faecal sludge management, bio-remediation etc.
Under Namami Gange Programme projects have been taken up for development / rehabilitation of sewage treatment plants in 97 towns along river Ganga and its tributaries apart from constructed wetland and faecal sludge management in one town each. Altogether 150 sewerage infrastructure projects have been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs.23,130.95 crore. 43 sewage projects have been completed and other projects are at different stages of implementation.
