Question : TV Relay Centres

a) the number of TV relay centres established at present in the country, particularly in backward districts, State/UT and location-wise;
b) the expenses incurred on these relay centres during each of the last three years;
c) the number of relay centres not working properly and the number of such relay centres located in tribal areas;
d) the details of the steps taken to improve their functioning; and
e) the outcome thereof?

(a) Presently, there are 23 Digital and 612 Analog terrestrial TV Relay Centres/ Transmitters of varying capacity located in various parts of the country, including backward and tribal areas. State/UT-wise and location wise list of TV Transmitters is enclosed as Annexure.
(b) The expenditure incurred on TV Relay Centres/ Transmitters throughout the country for last three years is as under: -

(c) to (e) As part of 11th and 12th Plan Schemes, Government has approved setting up of Digital Terrestrial Transmitters (DTTs)/ TV Relay Centres at 63 locations of which 23 no. of DTTs at 19 locations have already been commissioned and are functional.
