Question : FIRE IN AIIMS



(a) whether the Government has taken note of a recent fire incident in AIIMS, New Delhi;

(b) if so, the details thereof indicating the losses caused therefrom;

(c) whether the exact cause of the fire has been ascertained and responsibilities fixed in this regard;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future?

THE MINISTER OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI JAGAT PRAKASH NADDA)

(a) & (b): A fire incident took place in porta cabin situated on the terrace of the Administrative Block at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi on 28.02.2015 in which a large number of files of various departments were destroyed. All files of Vigilance Division are safe.

(c) & (d): An internal Committee constituted by AIIMS has indicated that short circuiting could be the cause of the fire, though this needs to be confirmed by Electrical Inspector of Delhi Government’s report.

(e): Several steps like regular mock drills for staff, fire training for guards, regular checking of fire extinguishers and timely verification of all log-books have been put in place to avoid recurrence of any fire incident.
