Question : Air India Flight Incident

(a) whether an Air India flight travelling in Milan had to return to Indira Gandhi International Airport following smoke in the passenger cabin;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has ordered any probe into it; and

(d) if so, the details of findings thereof and the action taken on the same?

(a) : Yes, Madam.;

(b) : B787 aircraft VT- ANP operating flight no. AI-137 dated 26.01.2016 on the Sector Delhi - Milan returned to Delhi due to technical snag and light fumes in the cockpit & cabin with burning smell. ;

(c) & (d) : The Permanent Investigation Board(PIB) of Air India, investigated the matter in consultation with Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the safety regulator. The Board concluded that technical snags of such nature are known in the aviation industry. The
above incident was taken up by Air India with M/s Boeing for their advice/ troubleshooting.
