Question : INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR BIHAR



(a) whether some international financial institutions are providing financial assistance for the construction of bridges and roads in Bihar;

(b) if so, the names of these financial institutions and the amount of assistance being provided by each out of them;

(c) the names and length of the roads and bridges to be constructed therefrom; and

(d) the time limit fixed for the completion of the construction work of the said roads and bridges?

(a to d) The Central Government is primarily responsible for development and maintenance of National Highways in the country and all other roads are essentially the responsibility of the State Government concerned. As far as National Highways are concerned, four laning of Barwa Adda-Barakar Section of NH-2 (length 42.69 Km) at a cost of Rs. 127.89 crore is in progress at present under loan assistance from the Asian Development Bank. The work is targeted for completion by June 2000. .......
