Question : Development of Border States

(a) whether the Government proposes to develop the entire border States of North East with modern facilities particularly medical, education and trade;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the projects proposed to be taken up in this regard; and

(c) the action taken in this regard during the last three years and the funds allocated during the said period, year-wise and project-wise?

(a) & (b) The Ministry of Home Affairs has been implementing Border Area Development Programme (BADP) in 163 border blocks of 49 districts along the international border of 8 North East States including Sikkim to meet the special development needs and well being of the people living in remote and inaccessible areas situated near the border and to saturate the borders with essential infrastructure through convergence with other Central / State Plan and other local schemes. The programme is supplementary in nature to fill the gaps in the infrastructure only in the border villages, which are closer to the international border. The priority is given to the villages situated within 0-10 km from the international border. The details under BADP are as follows:
