Question : REMAINS HIDDEN IN RED FORT



(a) whether the Government has asked the Central Building Research Institute to find the remains that have been hidden in the Red Fort over the years ;

(b) if so, the details in this regard and the reasons therefor; and

(c) the response of the Central Building Research Institute and the status in the matter ?

(a) Yes, Sir. The Archaeological Survey of India had requested the Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee for conducting Ground Penetrating Radar Survey (GPRS) to find out the details of buried structural remains at selected points within the Red Fort on trial basis.

(b)to(c) The survey was conducted as part of the exercise for formulation of the comprehensive Conservation Management Plan of the Red Fort.The sample Ground Penetrating Radar Survey (GPRS) had indicated existence of structural remains on the south part of Chhatta Bazar and Mehtab Bagh.Trial excavations have tentatively confirmed the findings.
