Question : Depot Sales Scheme for Cotton

(a) whether the Government has introduced Depot Sales Scheme for cotton in some parts of the country;

(b) if so, the details and the salient features of the scheme;

(c) whether it is proposed to extend the scheme to other parts of the country;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to promote medium and small spinning mills in the country?

(a): No, Madam. There is no such plan to introduce Depot Sales Scheme for cotton.

(b) to (d): Does not arise.

(e): In order to facilitate development of various segments of the Textile Industry, Government has taken policy initiatives and has launched various schemes like Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS), Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), Scheme for the Development of Powerloom Sector, etc. These schemes has facilitated setting up of new units as well as expansion of the existing units in various segments of the textile industry including medium and small spinning mill sector.
