Question : BAN ON CHINESE TELECOM EQUIPMENT



(a) whether the Government has banned the use of Chinese telecom equipment in the country including the border States in view of security reasons;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has held any meeting with the telecom operators and has given instructions to them not to use Chinese telecom equipment in view of security concerns;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the response of telecom operators thereto?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI GURUDAS KAMAT)

(a) & (b) Government has issued instructions to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) that resources should not be procured from Chinese companies for deployment in the sensitive regions defined as States having international border with China, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan.

(c) to (e) A meeting was held with telecom operators who expressed concerns over such ban. The matter is still under consideration of the Government.
