Question : SHORTAGE OF OIL TANKERS/OIL



(a) whether it is not a fact that there has been acute shortage of oil tankers and the supply of oil to petrol pumps is affected during the tourist season in the country specially in Uttarakhand;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the oil companies accord approval on priority basis to their petrol pump dealers in Uttarakhand for engaging their own tankers;

(d) if so, the time taken to accord approval for engaging their tankers; and

(e) the details thereof and the rules therefor?

(a) to (e): The delivered supplies of petrol and diesel to dealers ex-terminals/depots of oil companies are made through tank trucks owned by oil marketing companies or those awarded contract for transportation job. Public tenders on industry basis are invited for engaging tank trucks for transportation of bulk petroleum products to the dealer and customers. Dealers and customers are advised to participate in the public tender. The location wise requirements of tankers are indicated in the tender invited. These public tenders are finalized based on the lowest offer made in the tender and successful parties are awarded contracts for tankers offered in the tender.

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have reported that there is no shortage of oil tankers and supply of oil to petrol pumps specially in Uttarakhand.
