Question : LOGISTICS FOR PRICE CONTROL



(a) whether the Government is aware of the latest logistics techniques and management expertise utilised by globally operating departmental store chains like Wallmart, Tesco, etc. and its impact in arresting or reversing price rise in essential commodities and inflation;

(b) whether the Government has taken note of the fact that some countries including China are utilising the expertise of such store chains to strengthen and streamline their Public Distribution System (PDS);

(c) if so, whether the Government also proposes to utilise the logistics techniques and management expertise of these corporations to modernise the PDS in the country for more efficient delivery of services and to control prices; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d) : The government is already following a comprehensive anti-inflationary policy. The policy covers strict fiscal and monetary discipline, rationalization of excise and import/export duties of essential commodities to contain prices and improve their availability and effective supply-demand management including strengthening and streamlining of the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS).
